      UW-Eau Claire's "Ask a Scientist" series will continue Dec. 18 with a presentation by Dr. Lauren Wentz of the department of biological sciences at UW-Barron County. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. at the Acoustic Café in downtown Eau Claire.
Wentz will present "Acoustic Communication in Birds — The Original 'Social Network.'" She will discuss how vital acoustic communication can be to survival and reproduction among birds. The presentation also will focus on the characteristics of bird sounds and will feature a look into one of the Northwoods' favorite birds, the common loon.
    The series will continue at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 with a presentation titled "Graphene" by Dr. Marc McEllstrem of the Materials Science Center and department of chemistry at UW-Eau Claire.
