The Finnish folk group, Kardemimmit, will present a free UWEC concert in Phillips Recital Hall, Haas Fine Arts Center at 7 PM on Thursday, September 17th.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the award-winning Finnish folk group, Kardemimmit, on September 17th as part of the university’s ongoing musical, scholarly and international programming.  Kardemimmit are singers and players of the kantele (the national instrument of Finland) in its 15 and 38 stringed forms. The group's repertoire consists of modern folk music mostly composed by the members themselves. The music of Kardemimmit is fresh but it's strongly founded in Finnish tradition from both Eastern and Western regions. With its roots in Juvenalia, the folk music school in Espoo, southern Finland, Kardemimmit’s music has become an enchanting mix of original musical style and delicate harmonies, tying tradition to original interpretation as only the best musicians can do. All four members of the band continue their folk music studies, despite performing frequently and having four albums released to date, including Auto Huivila Kardemimmit, which was voted Finnish Music’s Association’s Best Folk Music Album of the Year in 2012.   More information about the group can be found here: http://www.kardemimmit.fi/
