Jazzmeia Horn, winner of the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, will perform a vocal jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center at UW-Eau Claire. The concert, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the music and theatre arts department's "A Year of Inclusivity" program, which highlights the contributions of underrepresented composers and other musicians in the programming and curriculum of the department. Horn, a recent graduate of New York's New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, will be joined by the Richard Johnson Jazz Trio, featuring Richard Johnson on piano, Billy Williams on drums and UW-Eau Claire alumnus Jeremy Boettcher on bass. The concert will journey through a history of traditional American jazz songs by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, as well as original work by Johnson. A jazz clinic on the entrepreneurship and "how-tos" of Horn's career and the history of jazz voice also will be presented by Horn and Johnson at 3 p.m. Feb. 21 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
