UW-Eau Claire will present the Fire Ball drag show and fundraiser at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1 in the Ojibwe Ballroom of Davies Center. The event raises funds for the LGBTQA Student Support Fund, which provides scholarships to LGBTQ students and allies who wish to pursue social justice experiences, education and activism when they would otherwise be financially unable to do so.
This year the Fire Ball will feature outstanding local and national performers, as well as two internationally recognized drag performers — Shangela from "RuPaul's Drag Race" and Chad Michaels, winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" and an acclaimed Cher impersonator.
"There are a lot of reasons to go to the Fire Ball," said UW-Eau Claire sophomore Jared Beighley. "It’s a great time with friends; it’s inexpensive for a show of its caliber; and attendees get to experience amazing entertainment. It also offers a glimpse into an exciting subculture that deconstructs gender and its performance and expression."
The Fire Ball has become one of the university's largest events. After this year's production, the Women's and LGBTQ Resource Center will have raised approximately $20,000 for LGBTQA students.
Tickets, available at the Service Center or at the door, are $6 for general admission and $9 for the DIVA pass (tabled stage-side seating). For more information, contact Christopher Jorgenson, Women's and LGBTQ Resource Center coordinator, at or 715-836-2693.
