UW-Eau Claire announces the first annual Blugold "The Jig's Up" Ice Fishing Contest. The event will be held from 6 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Feb. 8 on Lake Altoona. Each participant may register one fish per ticket; tickets are $25 each with no limit on the number of tickets an individual can purchase. There will be $15,000 in cash and prizes; prizes will be awarded for the top 100 fish by weight, so even a small fish can win! Food and beverages will be available. Parking on the ice is free; parking in the County Park is $3 per vehicle. All state regulations and bag limits apply during the contest. No one may bring in more than the legal limit of fish allowed, which for this contest includes northern, walleye, pan fish (perch, bluegills, crappies) and bass. Tickets may be purchased at the following locations: online until 9 a.m. Feb. 7; Mega Foods East and West; Scheels; McPhee Information Office and Hilltop Recreation Center Office, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays. All proceeds will support student leadership at UW-Eau Claire.
