This event is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The guest speaker, Verona Chambers, will share heart-wrenching and sometimes hilarious stories from her life in a communist regime. Her tireless efforts as an educator earned her national and international recognition. Verona was selected as “National Global Educator of the Year” by the Peace Corps. She was an invited guest of honor at the Point Alpha Peace Prize ceremony honoring George H.W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Helmut Kohl for their contributions to the reunification of Germany and later as an honored guest at the 70th birthday celebration for the Dalai Lama in Wiesbaden, Germany. Her story is featured as part of the permanent display in the Tränenpalast museum in Berlin.
