Soil Research at the Antarctic Peninsula: Images from the Fastest Warming Place on Earth

Presented by Nicholas Haus of Wisconsin Environmental Restorations

The western Antarctic Peninsula is one of the most biologically important and sensitive areas in the Southern Ocean. Several animal species rely on small, ice-free areas as breeding grounds. Although the western Antarctic Peninsula is one of the fastest warming places on the planet, relatively little is known about the soils of the region. This presentation will discuss results from 2010-2013 soil and permafrost investigations there. Perhaps of more interest, the presentation will also discuss Antarctic travel, lodging, facilities and logistics. And yes, there will be penguin pictures.
