The public is invited to the groundbreaking for the Confluence Arts Center, a community collaboration for the arts, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. The event will be held at the arts center construction site at the corner of Graham Avenue and Gibson Street in downtown Eau Claire.

The three-theater arts center will be used by UW-Eau Claire performing arts students and faculty as well as the Eau Claire Regional Arts Council, community arts organizations and Visit Eau Claire.

Members of the UW System Board of Regents, in Eau Claire for their Oct. 6-7 meeting hosted by UW-Eau Claire, will attend the groundbreaking. In August 2014, the Board of Regents included affirmation of support for the Confluence Arts Center in its UW System 2015-17 capital budget request and directed system President Ray Cross to work with the state Department of Administration to include state funding for the arts center in the 2015-17 state budget.

Support for the Confluence Arts Center includes $15 million in state funding; $5 million from the city of Eau Claire; $3.5 million from Eau Claire County; $3 million in new market tax credits; $16 million in philanthropic donations; and another $2.5 million in a combination of donations and construction loans.
