The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the Wind Symphony and Symphony Band season opening concert at 7:30 p.m. March 10 in Gantner Concert Hall of Haas Fine Arts Center.
The concert will begin with the Wind Symphony under the direction of professor Brian Diller. The Wind Symphony's music collection for the evening includes "Corrida" by Ethan Wickman and "Gallito" by Santiago Lope Gonzalo. Dr. Jeff Crowell will be featured during the Mackey percussion solo piece titled, "Drum Music, Concerto for Percussion."
The Symphony Band, led by Dr. Phil Ostrander, will be performing six works. "Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Band" by Oscar Navarro will feature Dr. Melissa Koprowski on clarinet. Other pieces of the night include "Dum Spiro Spero" by Chris Pilsner and "Through the Looking Glass" by Jess Turner. More information.
Concert tickets, available online and at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $6 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger, and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
